The inner race was attached to the trans and outer was still in the hole.
Hit the inner with a Chisle to cut it and a puller for the hole.
Cleaned the shaft up with Scotchbrite and put it all back together, That was 2 years ago and it is working fine.

I had this happen twice to me:
first a coil damper spring in the clutch hub cracked, and half a turn of coil fell and jammed between the friction disc and the flywheel, and it would not let the clutch release. I didn't know the spring in the clutch hub had broke; like you, I suspected hydraulic problems so I replaced master cylinder and slave cylinder, and bled and bled, and it still would not release. I finally pulled the clutch apart, and saw the little broken spring piece jammed in place and said Duhhhh
second time it happened, about 15 years later, a piece of organic friction material broke off and again jammed between the rest of the clutch disc and the flywheel, preventing release.
I have been good to my pilot bearings, and have not had a pilot bearing failure yet.

i understand what your saying, but with mine after the original problem, it went away, and then it came back. and honestly i dont think that a piece would lodge and then un lodge and then lodge again.

Ok, this could be a long shot, but... when you installed the slave cylinder, was the "push rod" thing pointed in the right direction. The second time I replaced my slave cylinder, the push rod was in backwards from the factory. I didn't pay any attention and assumed it was in there right. I don't remember exactly what the symptoms were. It might be worth checking and would take a minimal amount of time.
One week to race day Cody...... We'll have a big party at my place the night before, camping in backyard, bonfire, margaritas, naked volleyball, and maybe a little scrabble. My wife has three horny younger sisters who like guys named Cody.

but when i got it out, the pilot bearing was bad as well. but im fairly positive the problem was because of the clutch.
Enough about RX-7 stuff and back to the more interesting poultry discussion . . . If an egg lies around un-incubated by a mother hen, will it hatch?
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, i was acually fixing to post on here right after reading your post about you didnt think a piece could become lodged and dislodged, ill add that mine did this on the way home from bryan texas to corpus texas and every once in a while that piece would would come dislodged and my clutch would work fine again.
