1983 GSL turbo project update #1

Oh it was a nice warm day outside. I managed to pull the dashboard outa the car and the dash support is hanging on by the two bolts on the steering column. Right after I got the dash out good old Mr USPS dropped off a couple packages. My stuff I won on auctions from Japan about 4 monthes ago. 1. K27 3070g Turbo 2. Nice size TRUST intercooler 3. the FC strut bar. Will be taking the Turbo apart tonight to to get an idea what shape its in. It spun freely with very slight shaft movement.
Anyways I stopped on the interior removal and started on the strut bar to see how that works. The holes need to me enlarged about 3/16ths of and inch. Enlarge them toward the center of the strut.
These can really be considered the BEFORE pictures Excuse the EXTREMELY dirty engine compartment. Just got the car for free so cant complain. Just have to take out all the stock stuff and clean it out.

Forgot to add it's a mazdaspeed strut bar

The white strut bar looks so out of place in that engine bay.

Ok whats wrong with it? Is it clashing with all my dirt? It matches the oil filter. The white is temperary. It's an aluminum bar and I will be using some oven degreaser to remove the anodized white. Then I will polish it and it will be all shiney polished aluminum. Used to do that trick with my RC cars. The base would have a nice mirror finish in polished aluminum.

As for the radiator I will be taking all the items from my 85 12a turbo and moving them to the 83 but with a bigger turbo and intercooler. Dont mind the wiring mess I was messing around with stuff.

Dude, speaking as an automotive electrician, I think you have what we call "a rats nest". Just kidding! I too have a 83 GSL, and have been wanting to turbo it so bad I can't stand it. I have contimplated going with a TBI setup with stand alone. I think your 83 will be glad to have a "breath of fresh air". Looking good so far. Keep up the good work.

Honestly I lost count. Because there is so much more than just the Turbo kit. Brakes, Ignition, and all the other stuff that keeps adding up. about a year ago I was at $3000.00 invested in whole car. That's including the 250.00 I paid for the car. But the list of mods is still getting longer. That and now I have a really nice 1983 body and a new list of stuff to accomplish.

But just to give you an idea. the turbo kit persay was the cheapest thing.

I surf Yahoo Auctions Japan ALOT.

K26 turbo
Sigma carb box, exhaust manifold, intake manifold, Intercooler and piping, Wastegate, pop off valve. were all purchased for 15000 yen roughly $145.00 when i got it.

Throw in a new 48 IDA carb for 499.00
A polyurethane float for 150.00
wideband O2
wheels
clutch
light weight aluminum flywheel
crossdrilled and slotted rotors
oh the list never stops.

Next im looking for stainless brake lines and I'm thinking about a underdrive main pulley. But that is just because I have to pull off the front cover and install another one with an oil return in it. So while I have it off might as well replace the pulley. But not to sure on that one.

But not worried about the above till I get the 83 stripped of all that un-needed stuff.

Intercooler search on Yahoo Auctions Japan. It's for a GTS-t skyline RB(20/25)DET engine. It is a beautiful fit in the front section.
