85 SE problems
Ok I had a previous thread with the fuel tank issue that doc had helped me with but I figured I would start a new one. I have an 85 SE stock with the TB mod and a cone filter(done because the stock filter from the local store was 50 bucks). Car has ran fine with no problems until just recently. During the winter I started her up every week or so and sometimes when I started the car it sounded the the exhaust was plugged and then it went away after a second or two. Then a few weeks ago after replacing the fuel filter after mine was clogged and I ran full throttle around town a few times after driving for a half hour before. I ran it wide open through every gear then let off at a light and accelerated and outta nowhere power died exactly like it had when I started it in the winter. Now it wont idle. It will go up to 7k but with no power and sounds like a 4wheeler. Both coils are putting out spark, both chambers have good compression, and i have spark. Anyone got any ideas?
Did you perform a fuel presssure/volume test yet.
There is a possibility because the filter you had on their was for a carb'd that it let too much crude thru and may be blocking the air bleeds that the injectors spray fuel thru. But's that just a theory. You could have a very bad or no spray pattern out of one of the injectors.
You couold have air trapped in the fuel lines.
Recommend that you take the feed hose from the fuel pump and have someone hold it in a coffee can or suitable container. Then with the key on, bypass the fuel pump relay at the connector in the engine bay to energize the fuel pump. You can then see how much fuel is coming out and if it looks like good volume and pressure.
