85 gsl se for me oh happy day!

today I found a great deal on a 85 gsl se $500. Its in good shape , a little rust spots but otherwise good to go body wise.
However it won't start, But from what he said the reason it won't start is because of an electrical problem, He said the headlights and other electrical stuff won't turn on most of the time as well so I'm assuming an electrical problem maybe the harness. Its only got 80k on it so I think its a good deal no matter what. what do you guys think.
Thanks

gsl-se starting prob

is it getting fuel / spark?? mine had a problem with flooding, it's an easy fix. Disconnect the spark coil near the front of the car (blue wire for the trailing plug which is the first, front coil). The car will fire once then die, before it dies reconnect the coil and you'll be running normally.
let me know the outcome of your situation. I've got an 84 GSL-SE that needs another body, so if you happen to give up...

Just a word of caution...

Don't believe everything the guy trying to unload the car says. I had a guy tell me the -SE he was selling had NO rust. And there wasn't any on the body...

'Course the chassis was rusted through in two places and the was a hole in the rear passenger wheel well big enough to put my hand through.

You might also wanna run a VIN check on it though Carfax.

I picked up the se today. the problem actually is that when you turn the ignition you can hear a relay click but nothing else. the starter makes no noise and nothing moves. Any Ideas?
Thanks

have you check to make sure the motor turns? leave it in gear and push, maybe the motor is carbon locked.

Alright, thank you guys. I really want to check the main fusable link, But where is it? I found a wire that had a fuse holder in it and the fuse was missing so I put a fuse in there. It didn't make a difference. It seems like the starter selenoid is kicking in but the starter isn't turning. But I can turn the main pulley so I know the motor isn't locked up.
Thanks Guys
Elz

Hey guys figured it out. It was the starter. Does the 12a use the same starter as the 13b. it looks the same. Anyhow I took the starter apart and cleaned it. Now it seems to be working ok.
But now a new problem. I started to crank it and it started right up and idled for about 2 -3 seconds then died.

This link should be required reading of all owners of fuel injected GSLSEs. I'm assuming that you still have the EGI installed.

My -SE was running real bad when I bought it for $500. I had no clue about the EGI or any fuel injection system experience. I was going to replace it with a carb. But after reading this article, I tested the TPS and its readings were real jumpy. So bad that I couldn't adjust it properly. Would not excellerate smooth nor would the throttle hold one position. Idled bad too. Bought a new TPS. Then a new O2 sensor got rid of the tail pipe smoke and improved the idle even more.

Runs great now!!!!

Spay carb cleaner all around the inside of the throttle body before you begin. Assume that it was neglected and dirty inside. Making adjustments beforehand is a waste of time since cleaning could change the position of the valves.

Were you able to start the car again after the first time?
Is the idle high or cycling up and down?

Things to check:
print and read the above link
get new plugs!
is the fuel filter plugged?
how old is the gas?
