85 GSL-SE ignition question..

Just a really quick question. On the drivers side inner fender, there are the ignition coils on my friends 85 -SE. Which one of them is leading, and which is the trailing coil? They are not marked. We are in the process of putting his new engine in, and that is the only thing I wasnt sure of... Thanks

follow the wires from the front most ingniter... they will lead to the leading coil. off the top of my head i think the leading coil is also the one closest to the front of the car.

The one toward the front is the Trailing coil. This allows the Trailing coil wire (high tension, from coil output to cap input) to go to the distributor cap without having to twist around the Leading wire. You'll notice the T on the cap is also toward the front of the car. The L connector on the cap is in the center. Makes sence to me. You should check to make sure your wires haven't been crossed by some mechanic in the car's past who only knew piston engines. It's happened before. Good luck.
