Hiya, Donna...

What hardware are you going to install? Are you replacing rotors, calipers, backing plates, pads, front or back or both? The most difficult thing I ever ran into regarding GSL brakes was getting the bottom bolt outta the dished backing plate so one can remove/move the caliper. The boltheads are 17mm and since the bottom bolthead sits in a dished portion of the backing plate and is almost totally covered by the steering knuckle it is a bear to work on. I used a 17mm offset boxend to work the bolthead and prybar to push the steering knuckle away so I could get it out. (Haynes says use a large screwdriver)

I knew I didn't ever want to go thru that again, so I bought a Cheap China offset 17mm box at Wally-Mart, ground down the box end so that it fit inside the dish without being bothered by the steering and so that it sat flat inside the dish, not at an angle. Then I took the bolt to the grinder and ground it down just enough so that it fit into the dish without having to use the prybar and risk my fingers...Another reason to get an SE as the front brakes are bigger and you don't have to deal with the dish/steering problem...

Be careful disconnecting the brakelines. I plug the hose end with a golf tee. Once the caliper is off take a wire wheel and brush to it. Clean the area where the pads slide as best as you can. If you wanna, take the thing into the Auto-supply house as your core and get a reman. It's already clean, rebuilt and ready for high-temp disk brake grease and pads...Take the rotor off and have it resurfaced. I bought a resurfacing wheel device that looks like a wire brush cup with the wires topped by ***** of grit. You put it on your drill and spin it around both sides of your rotor and it clears away the rust, pits, etc.

If you get this far you may wanna consider new bearings. They're cheap and easy to replace. Use lots of bearing grease...

The small tempered steel spring clips go on the top of the caliper, the larger ones onto the bottom. There should be holes in the brake pads for the funny lookin' spring (sort of V shaped). It's your anti-rattle spring...
Sorry to hear 'bout the Job...Time to relocate? Still hiring 'round here.
