I was trying to be more descriptive than the doc's sinlge word reply. 
Any NA flywheel from '74-'92 will work in an '85 GSL manual trans. You just have to make sure that the flywheel matches your rotating assembly.
It sounds to me like this guy wants to use a 2nd gen flywheel on his 12A. The doc is right in that it won't work. It would bolt in and all that, but the vibrations might be noticeable, and the bearing wear will kill his oil pressure really quickly.

ahh, thanks guys i was curious beacuse i work at summit and they obviosly dont sell first gen flywheels but they do sell for them for 2nd gen and i just wanted to be able to use my discount.
