85 gs Turbo project almost done (but microtech probs)
Well, after not touching my car for over a year, I am almost there. Maybe it will actually make it to Sevenstock this year. Everythings in except for the intercooler piping and exhaust and I thought I would be able to start it tonight.
My friend just finished wiring the Microtech LTX 8. The problem is, while cranking motor, the voltage to the bosch coils drops to like 5 volts! So we get no spark and I can't start my car. When I turn the ignition key to on, I get 12 volts at the coils but once I turn the key to start and the starter starts cranking, voltage drops to 5 !
Any ideas on what might be wrong?
The only thing we can think of is that the starter might be messed up and drawing to many volts? It's a junkyard starter that I havent tested but it does crank fine.
THANKS

Thanks, I'll check those out! I've got a couple of other ideas from the microtech forums, microtechefi.com. I was thinking it may be a ground problem myself.

It's not the battery that's dropping, it's the power being sent to the coils from the microtech. Reading through the microtech forums, I found a way to test the system. I'll start there and keep you updated.
thanks

The Microtech doesn't "send" power to the coils. It simply turns the negative side of the coil on and off. The coil positive terminal should be at 12V whenever the ignition is on. A low battery will cause the sort of problem you're having. Get it checked.

I got my car running!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Started it up with just the downpipe.....lol I could see the neighbor across the street jump out of his recliner when I started it haha.
Anyways, the Crank Angle Sensor was wired wrong! When we wired it, we connected the red, green and blue wires that come from the Microtech to the red, green and blue wires on the crank angle sensor. Well, after putting the multimeter to them, we figured out that the colors didn't match what the wires actually did. So we repinned them and that took care of it. Thanks for the ideas guys! This car's been sitting in my garage for a couple years due to lack of motivation. After I heard that thing run, I couldn't stop smiling all night!
