the '85 gs returns... fuel pump problems...

Ok guys, i dressed the motor out the other day and i just now got time to fool with it again, im not getting ANY fuel up to the carbeurator...i turned the ignition to ON and disconnected the lines from the carb, dry as a bone...
the fuel filter under the car was rusty.....so im going to think that the pump is clogged up with rust which has seized it...
anyone else agree? is their any way to test and make sure that the pump is coming on?
