85 GS Carb Questions

Hey everyone,

Im new to this forum and RX-7's. I just purchased mine recently so I'm a newb when it comes to these cars. So please be patient.

I was driving down the highway and all the sudden my car started to surge real bad like im running out of fuel but I have a full tank. So i pull over and its idleing really rough at around 1200 rpms. So I pop the hood and I look down the carb and the secondaries are filling up with fuel. Its flooding its self.

So I get it home on it's last leg and it dies. I cannot get it started at all. I actually burned up the starter trying to get it started up. I pulled the plugs and they were drenched in fuel so I'm assuming its a foulup in my carb somewhere but im not sure. I have spark and good compression.

Anyways your input would be greatly appreciated.

Check your floats. Sounds like one is hung up.

Try tapping on the top of the carb over each float.
Use the sight glass on the side to see when/if the fuel is at the right level (1/2 way).
Locate the single black wire w/ white stripe that is attached to the carb on the drivers side. It's the only wire on that side, and operates the carb vent. If that's not plugged in, it will cause flooding problems.

if your car was idleing high and dumping tons of fuel I would check to see if the butterfiles are stuck open
