85 GS to 82 - Compatibility
Hello!
I have an opportunity to pick up an '85 GS parts car (12A) but am concerned about it's compatibility with my '82. I would like to transfer the '85's doors, back bumper, seats, and hood to my '82. I believe those items are exactly the same, yes? My main question is the engine parts. I would like to swap the compressor, fan & cover, U-joint (whole), wiper motor and some other miscellaneous stuff. Will I have compatibility issues between my basic 82 and an 85 GS?
I know very little about the parts car. I have no idea if anything under the hood works. It looks like it's been dead under a sap-dripping tree for a long, long time.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

You should not have any issues. The 85 will have better front hubs (larger bearings) and the rear end will also have larger bearings I believe. The parts that you mentioned should swap over with no issues, but I'm not 100% positive...

U-joints/driveshaft will not swap, unless you change the mounting flange on the rear end, not recommended without some experience. Most everything else listed should swap with no issues. Main differences will be dash items and a few emission related parts on the carb.
If the compressor you mention is the ac one, it's probably not worth the effort after sitting that long.

Thank you!
I was afraid the compressor (ac) would be useless, wishful thinking on my part. They are just so damn expensive.
I really appreciate the advice. I'll have a 'real' mechanic put the more complicated parts in. Once I replace the doors, bumper she's going to get new paint!
Thank you again!
