Question '85 gas tank question

Hello everyone.
Are all the gas tanks between '85 models the same? More specifically, if I took a tank out of a '85 GS or GSL, would it work in my GSL-SE? I have a tank that cracked in my GSL-SE that I need to replace because I leave a gas trail on the ground every time I make a left!
Thanks.

I would think they are. We did a swap from an '80 GS to an '85 GS.

The tanks are the same but the pickups are different but you can just unscrew them and put the -se one on the good tank. The 12a tanks have ~ a 3/8" suction line while the -se has a 1/2".

Gas trail when you turn

You may not have a cracked tank. Rather, the rubber sleeve that connects the tank to the inlet may either be disconnected or torn.

I believe any tank from a '81-85 will work as they all were the same size and designed for the fake spare tire.

Drive well.

thanks for the replies

Hi everyone, thanks for your replies. It seems as though at least I won't have to be picky as to what year or model I get my gas tank from. I'm sure it is cracked as I did it myself while trying to replace the in tank fuel gauge unit while the tank was still in the car (not recommended!) So instead of fixing my fuel guage, i'm out a gas tank!

the SA's have a smaller gas tank, 14.5 gal vs. the 16.6 for the FB's. I they must be shaped a little different. Also the sender mounting holes may be different.

I put a 85 tank in my 83, the tanks are the same becides the removable lines (see pic)

I would find a 84-85 one so you can put your larger -se lines back on it.
