85 carb issues
so ive been looking at other threads where secondarys were discussed and they said that only the primarys worked in neutral stopped but i had the top off of the intake assembly and my secondary's did work at higher rpm with the car in neutral but now they dont work at all even in gear
this happened just after i installed a new fuel filter but i dont think its related
at the same time as the secondary function developing problems i noticed a strong gas smell and could hear the pressure from the gas cap so i think the ventilation system needs fixed
could it all be just one big vacuum leak ?

Your secondary vacuum actuator has a dedicated vacuum source directly ported from the carb internally. These are probably separate problems.(gas smell) . Pressure from the gas tank is normal. the only true way to test the vacuum actuator is to remove it from the carb (3 screws and a clip on the actuator rod) and apply vacuum to the port hole and see if the rod pulls in. Alternatively, you can push the actuator rod in and hold your finger over the vacuum hole on the actuator, release th pressure on the actuator rod and see if the diaphragm keeps the rod retracted, at least until you remove your finger from the hole. If it doesnt operate as it should, the diaphragm probable has a hole in it.
