85 Brake drum attaching screws needed?

Hi all!
Are the Brake drum attaching screws needed on an 85 rear drum brake setup. I am speaking of the two small screws that screw into the outside of the brake drum. They are interfering with my new wheels. Can I just get rid of them all together?
Thanks in advance!

If you are refering to the screws that hold the drum to the hub, they are there to hold the drum flush and clocked with the hub, making tire changes easier. They are not needed as the lug bolts will hold eveyting in place.

Thats what I thought. So it should be no problem if I remove them right. The wheels keep the drum in place?

Right, with out the screws, it makes lining up the hub, drum and wheel harder, that is all. Same thing is true for disc brake set ups.
