84rx7 air vent solonoid problem
I recently purchased a pretty rough 84 rx7 gsl. Always wanted a rotary-like fast cars. I've been troubleshooting electrical, vacuume, and fuel system and have it running pretty well, but it won't Idle - period. I can adjust Idle down to about 1200 but then it just dies. trouble shooting has led me to the air vent solonoid which does not close as it should with ignition on. I checked the voltage with Ignition on and am only getting a volt or two( I also checked other solonids sharing the same Black/white striped wire and they show similar voltage) I used ohm meter and same wires show partial open to ground. I think the wiring diagram says I should have 12 volts at these solonoids, and when I run 12 volts directly to the air vent solonoid it works fine. Anyone tell me if I should have 12 volts at these solonoids? If so I have 12 volts atfuel pump cut relay where does the wire go through fire wall so I can trace it? Sorry for long post. hope I'll help someone else.

I've got a Haines manual, it has an updated electrical diagram for 84-85 12A but doesn't show a complete diagram of wiring harness- looks like 12 volts from ignition to fues box to fuel pump cut relay then on to air vent solonoid etc. I have 12 volts at fuel pump relay and am pretty sure I should have 12 volts at solonoid also but not very good at wiring diagram. I may bypass original wire and run 12 volts directly from Pump relay to solonoids - I've had other electrical shorts and bad wires. NO smog laws in Indiana but we do grow corn for ethnanol! I've just got to be sure internal engine etc is worth saving then I will be looking for advice to possibly replace carb (also do something with the straight pipe under car where cat convert was supposed to be) Since someone mentioned vacuum lines there is an open one at the base of the intake manifold way below the others that appears to be for automatic trans only- really hard to get to - should it be plugged for manual trans? (mines a 5speed)
