84 rx stereo no sound

my 84 rx-7 has the radio, cassette and equalizer, it comes on the stations tune but has no sound. any ones have a suggestion. Also the antenna itself has kinda snapped and the flexible shaft inside is still in tact. does it just need a new antenna, there is currently no sound at all but it does turn on. any suggestions?

Test the speakers.

These 1st gen cars are ridiculously simple to take apart. Especially the interior pieces.

Start checking your speakers to see if they even work at all.....then start tracing the wires til you figure out where the problem is.

If the speakers don't even work, that might be the only problem.

First, go to the speakers and test those. You should be able to pull the speakers out relatively easily, the fronts only take a little contorting to get up to the kick panels. If the speakers all work, next pull out the storage compartments behind the seats and check the little Clarion amplifier units. Those could very well be bad. If they are and you want to replace them... talk to someone on the forum. I'd send you the one from my GS for the cost of shipping. Lastly, check the reciever itself... that could be bad, in which case you should indulge. Get something new ; )

and if you need help getting to or finding any of the stereo equipment, PM me, I just spent a week or so rewiring my entire car for a new stereo =P

If the metal part of the antenna mast is snapped, you're probably picking up NO signal thru the airwaves at all. That would translate into no sound. Do you get sound with the tape deck? (Not that it couldn't be bad either, but...)

Nope. I bought my car with a large wing on back, which meant no more antenna.

My radio, and all speakers worked, but the radio had a terrible reception, and would only come in sparatically.

But, even when not coming in, I still picked up static.

I pulled my passenger rear interior panel to see that the last owner just disconnected the antenna from the snap together connection, instead of just cutting the cable. I rigged in a temporary antenna for the time being, but this means I only have to plug in a new antenna.
