I almost bought those wheels actually. I wanted 15x8 but they had none for the 5 bolt. I ended up with rota grids and I cant wait till I get home and put them on. I still have to order tires and spacers (if needed) before I can install my LS1 though since it is a straight forward swap needing everythng done at once to work

 

I guess mine will be sticking out quite a bit more since I have 8'' in the rear, and +4 offset as well as 225 tires. Front will be about the same, just maybe 1/2'' further out. I'll just have to roll the fenders and keep a little fender gap with a higher ride height and stiff springs, which I plan to run.

 

Hyper black is on backorder until July apparently... I wish more websites would update their availability on products. Seems they only have hyper silver, which just wouldn't look right, so I'm holding off I guess, for now.

 

Reordered on ebay, a set of 15x7 +4 in royal hyper black. Not sure how that differs from regular hyper black. Seems like it's a bit more matte in finish, or less chrome like. 7'' instead of 8'' will be interesting. Leaving 205 tires to handle ~250hp and 325tq. At least it won't be a dull drive. Plan to run RE-11's in 205/50. I hear nothing but good things about them. Backspacing is now not a problem, since 7'' at +4 is about 4.2'' backspace, so PLENTY of room all around.

 

we've got both, and um its so close to the same color, we can't tell em apart....

 

Good to hear, I was really in love with the hyper black. Since they are 7'' wheels, and the front will have a 3/4'' adapter, I will probably have to run a spacer in the rear so that the front isn't wider than the rear, which would look weird to me.

 

Thank you UPS man! Got them in today. Love them upon first inspection. I wasn't expecting the inner and back of the wheel to be semi gloss black, but it's not like you see much of that part of the wheel anyway, and it's understandable for the cost. Should do very nicely on the FB. The royal hyper black does look as I imagined. Like a polished graphite, very slick!

 

What are the odds that I could fit the tire under the fender up front with my 15x7 +4 wheels with 205/50 tires, with a 1'' spacer/adapter and maybe -1 degrees of camber? Close?

 

no idea on fitment but I can tell you why they are painted in those unseen places. It is to protect against corrosion as well as to make clean up easier.

Are you still doing the v8 swap?If so I would recommend more rubber in the rear than a 205.

 

Yes. I am well aware 205 will be far undersized for the power I will be making, but maybe it will be fun spinning and sliding all about. I very likely will upgrade to 8'' 225/50 in the rear, which even that is barely capable. I'll make the extra wheels and tires spares. Roads around here are known to kill wheels and tires quite often (pot holes, and big ones).

 

i have fit 225/50/15's on a 7" wide wheel before so it can be done. With mine I got 225/50/16 front and 245/55/16 rear on 8" wheels now. I should barely keep traction at 350whp and 3.73 gearing.

 

I just feel 225 is a bit wide for a 7'' wheel. A bit too much sidewall flex for my taste.

 

you should see the hoosiers we're running now! the hoosier and the hankook, are both 225's, but the tread on the hoosier is easily 1/2" wider than the hankook, and there is a lip that moves the bead seat IN, so its setup for a narrower wheel... and they are both 225's....

the other data point is that i've got an unmounted Ra1, and dad has an unmounted michelin, and its amazing how soft the michelin sidewall is, or how much stiffer the toyo is.

i want to agree with you, but it depends on the construction of the tire you pick. the michelin would take a wider wheel than the hoosier.

 

Yeah, I guess so. I just feel better with a little bit of a stretched sidewall, outwards, not inwards. Not stretched like a euro trash VW or anything, just vertical or a little past.

 

yeah pinchingcan be a bad thing, i have seen catastrophic failure from pinching too big a tire on a smaller rim. Usually this happens with lower sidewalls.
