Hi there,

I'm new to this forum and currently looking at a GSL-SE 1984. I've yet to see the car in person but was wondering what your opinions would be on the car. Not sure if SE means it will have all this stuff so i'll list it anyway, pw, pm, moonroof and sunroof, a/c totally rebuilt, leather burgangay interior and a dark grey(charcoal?) exterior. Car is supposedly bone stock and in exceptional condition in and out, apparranlty the head light sprasyer doesn't work and the leather seats are showing age. 220, 000 KM (136, 000 miles). He says that it really is in mint shape even with that mileage. Mazda serviced since he owned it from '94. It is also being sold with a safety inspection and emissions test. What kind of price would you guys put this car at (its in Ontario, Canada). Is a car like this worth buying if at a decent price? I know I can't decide before seeing it but I would just like to get some basic info.

 

GSL-SE models are the top-o-the-line models. came with the 13b engine, as opposed to the 12a for the other '84 models. with the kinda high milage engine, i would do a compression test, and get a local rotary pro (plenty to be found on this site) to check it out with you. im not sure how much it would be worth to pay without this info, or what you would plan on doing with the car. all in all, the GSL-SE is a great car (i personally have a 84 gsl-se...with some mods). might wanna snap some pics for the site too. welcome to the site and hopefully to the "rotary family". good luck on the car!

Yes, I was planning on doing a compression test and also bringing along a couple of self-proclaimed "rotary pros". I plan on doing some mods but I will be keeping all the stock equipment so I can always return the car to stock (if they ever become valuable at all). Thanks for the reply, I will try to get some pictures, I won't be seeing the car till late next week.

 

Is it worth buying you ask? We don't know what an RX-7s mean to you, but I can say that we love ours

To answer you question.. check for rust! pull out teh storage bins and check underneath.. Beyond the compression check it's just normal used car stuff... The SE's are the 'best' models.. bigger motor, EFI, bigger brakes, better bolt pattern for wheels etc etc..

My car has 135,000 miles.. If I were the one selling I'd say 4,000 (USD) would be a good price. If you can get it for less than that it's obviously better. I paid 3400 for mine several years back and given the condition I'd buy again for that price in a heartbeat Granted I am in TX and I don't kwo if that makes much difference than being in Canada, but still...
