84 gsl-se fuel pump noise

hi all, got my car out today and after driving about 20 miles i started hearing a whining noise coming from the fuel pump. after i cut the engine off it still whined for a few seconds and then quit. started the car back up and it started again car only has 30,000 miles on it . could the fuel pump be going out. thanks

its possible that the pump is on its way out. before replacing the pump, remove the pump mounting plate. the pump will come down with it as its bolted to the mounting plate. inspect the mount's and the pump's rubber insulators for damage or rot. check and make sure the two fuel pump mounting bolts are snug. a loose pump or loose mounting plate can cause a noise.
