84 GS, , should I buy?

Theres a 84 GS forsale, and hes' asking $700. It's silver, needs new paint, smokes, needs a new catalytic converter, and hasn't had a title for the past 3 owners. But, autocheck says the last record was in Baltimore, in 1995 therefor a renew, and now its in Alabama. It's been sitting for 5-6 years, so it probably needs new gaskets. He said the last time he drove he had first gotten it and was going to get gas, ran out. When he got somemore in it, it spit and spatard after that. He didn't run it till recently, and he said it ran ok, but smokes alot and has no power. So, I guess on of the rotors it out. I can probably talk him down to $200. My dad dons't like the idea, I guess since I'll be using the money that I've saved up since I was like 6 years old to buy the thing (I've got about $1600), and I guess he wants to watch out for my safty since I'll be buying a 20 year old sports car. I'm 15 years old, and have access to someone who can help me, but isn't going to be doing the work for me. So, can a 15 year old get the job done? Should I pass? Or is this a bargin? Am I gonna spend a forune on parts? Please help me out.

$200 is a good price! but i dont know exactly whats wrong with it so.....

I was 15 when i bought mine. i just did one thing at a time and im getting there.lol I would say get it if you will enjoy fixing it up. But if you just want something to drive it might be a different story.

So what do yall think?(other forum friends)

I'm 18 and just got a 84 GSL (Silver) about a week ago. So far I've been able to do everything myself in regards to maintence (and I've never touched a car before). I'd say go for it if you have the $$$ to sink into new parts.

If it's been sitting for a long time it probably needs a lot of work and probably a motor if it smokes bad(blown seal). You'd be better off finding a project thats seen road use. It's always safer to buy a daily driver than a sitting parts car. That car would need brake work for sure, motor work and probably major maintenance.
