Unhappy 83' fb blowing cigar/clock fuse

My 83' FB keeps blowing a 15a fuse and front flipups wont flip up or light. the turn signals won't work either. I have checked all other fuses on the fuse box. I've gotten the car to crank, but it now seems like i might have to replace the battery cables as well. The gauges all light up and the clock, cigar and pretty much all the interior lights work. the rpm gauge acts funny though when I hoop up a power source and turn the ignition it starts to rise.

Welcome to the forum and the Darkside.

Headlights are fused through the fusible links on the shock tower. Upper and lower are for the lights, center one is the main. If you have any aftermarket wiring/stereo, etc. hooked up, disconnect it and check the wiring.

In my sig line is a link to the on line FSMs, carb manual and other rotary reading.

that is not my question. you did not answer crap, u did not pay attention to a thing I said, all you saw was lights. I was mainly asking why the hell i would be blowing the cigar/clock fuse, and why the hell the steering column buzzed when i put the hazards on or turn signals.

Oh and the clock and lighter seem to have power, as they are both lit up but clock does not move and lighter wont get hot, even though it has power.

anyways. today i checked the battery cables. i took jumper cables, connected positive to starter to battery and grounded everything correctly, no dice. so I guess they are shot. I will replace and then see if anything is better. Tomorrow
i am going to try and get the steering wheel off and test the relays at the steering column.

And electrically those manuals don't tell you **** about diagnosis or repair, just about where everything is.

HEY HEY - easy now. Trochoid is one of the most knowledgeable and polite people we have around here.

You complain that your headlights aren't working, he points out that headlights are on a circuit that includes fusable links in an easily accessable area, and you bitch?

Might wanna rethink that approach if you want people to help you.

funny.. i had the same problem a few weeks ago. turned out being the wires that wire up the dome light up there on the roof. one of the wires were exposed and grounding out next to the visor. after i taped it up, i popped in a new fuse and everything worked again.

With your reply and attitude, perhaps my welcoming you to the forum was premature. If you're offended by my sig line, it is intended for information and humor. If you're too short sighted to see that, visit the optomitrist.

Since I'm such a nice fellow and not easily offended and you some how seem to be mechanically disadvantaged , I will help you once again.

Cigarette lighters do burn out, have you tried a replacement? For the turn signals, clean and relube the multi-switch. The clock may be past it's time, test a different one.

If you find the wiring diagrams inadequate for your needs, maybe you should do more than look at pics. Reading the text in the related sections will provide you with the proceedures needed to troubleshoot the problems. Fwiw, the 85 FSM is the best of the series.

Fwiw, I did read, I did pay attention and I did answer. However, young padiwan, if you need spoon feed, put on your bid and go your mother.

Most of us can relate to that - but when it comes to problem solving or diagnosing car-related stuff, this place is a good resource and especially some key people. They're the last ones you want to "take it out" on. The apology was a good move. Welcome to the forum!

wow what a warm welcome. Any hoo. I tried testing as many spot as I could and still cannot find the short or where wires might be crossing. SO when i get the money together i am going to buy a new wiring harness with the battery cables.

any suggestions.

also I have another question. Should i BUy a replacement gas tank or a racing fuel cell. I don't have alot of money, but this car is intended to be a track car as well a street car.

if i should get a fuel cell where should i go to get the best deal for a rex.
I am in greensboro north carolina.

Oh and by god do I love my rx7 even though It hasn't moved a foot since i got towed to my house. I paid 200 hundred dollars and it has already started.m
I did not get enough gas to it to idle though. After I started the first time, I went to start it again and a friend was feeding the carb like before. The carb was still getting gas from the tank in the previous start but it was turned to turp.
Well after it started i heard a pop eminate from rear and we observed leakage.

since then i took a short break from trying to get it run and focused on body work and such. I just now recently tried to get electrical things working.

I just wonder why how i got enough juice threw those wires the first time to start any how. Well for 1 thing i did have 2 cars and battery hooked to it.
Last time it tried to start i had two battery chargers on it.

excuse any error in grammar or spelling, they is'nt no reflection upon ability to make coherent speach, i was just ina hurry!
