83 engine in an 80RX7

I put a 1983 engine in my 1980 RX7. How should the 80 ignition coils and firing box in the 80 chassis be wired to the 83 distributor? I cannot get the 83 engine to fire. Can someone advice me? Thanks.

Either use the 80 dizzy or, your better option, convert over to electronic ignition. There are some write ups on how to do this.

Yeah, search for the writeups on changing it to the electronic ignition. Definitely the better of the two options.

The 80 ignition is electronic, right? It is different that the 81+ system, but it is electronic non-the-less.

Yep. The '80 is electronic already. The ignitors are different (J-105 vs. J-109) and the ignitors are mounted on the driver inner fender instead of on the distributor. Just use the '80 distributor and the rest of the '80 ignition system. That would be the easiest solution.
