'82 RX7 Value?

Totally new to RX7's. Still trying to learn about them, but stumbled upon an incredibly clean car. It's a black 1982 RX7 with red interior that's in extremely good shape. I think the car has been pampered it's whole life.

Can't remember the miles, but the guys is asking $4500 obo. Blue book says $3500.

What are trouble areas to look at? Are rot and rust a problem? What kind of things should I be careful of?

$4500 is a little expensive even if it is clean. rust areas that i found on mine were under the storage bins.

Yup, the storage bins can be evil, as can the rear fender wells, all body seams, under the rearbumper and under the windshield moldings. Any sign that the car has ever been re-painted or has had body work done is a red flag, indicating previous rust, an accident or both.

If these areas check out ok the car "may" be worth up to 4k, but only if the car has never been hit, needs absolutely nothing fixed or replaced, has relatively low mileage, a strong engine, no mods and if this owner can provide all service records to back up the mileage claim and that the vehicle was meticulously maintained. If he balks, keep looking--- unless he's willing to come down to earth on his price--- say, under 2k. Even then, be sure you can live with the car, warts and all.

i dont know about that price. what trim level is it? for that price he better be able to come up with service records to back it up.

on second thought for that price i know you can get a really nice gsl-se https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=428443

heres one that is supper clean and well keep. well worth the price being asked. it might be a little far for you to get to but its worth looking at.

I picked up my 85 GSL-SE up 2 years ago for $2500. It had little rust in the bins, but other wise it was mint. So I would say it is way too high.
My 2 cents.
