Question 82 carb question

Hello,

Sorry for the newbie-ness of this post, but I'm in the process of purchasing my first rx7 and I'm not much of a mechanic.

Anyway, I went to look at an 82GSL today. The owners told me that there was a fuel leak from the carburetor. I had them start up the car and took a look at the engine. I couldn't find a picture, so I'll try to describe what happened. I was standing on the driver's side and looking across the engine toward the carb. I couldn't tell which hose (if it was a hose) it was coming from, but there was gasoline spraying out. It kind of pulsed, but I don't think it varied when the engine was revved. I couldn't tell if it was spraying toward the carb and splashing back, or spraying from the carb and splashing on a hose or something. The carb is newly replaced, the hoses might not be. I don't really know enough about carbs or rx7's to have a guess. Any ideas?

I, obviously, didn't buy the car. It looks pretty good and has many new parts, but they want $3000 for it. I think that's a bit much, even if it only has 60,000. I'm looking for a decent gen1 or gen2 for $2500 or less.

Thanks for any help in advance,
Mike

You couldn't tell if it was coming from a hose or the carb? Replacing the hoses isn't a big deal (if you can get the hoses), but neither is rebuilding the carb, really. Do you think it might be something stupid like a forgotten or poorly placed gasket?

The carb was newly replaced, so it's likely that it's probably a hose or gasket. I'll have to ask the sellers some more questions.

Thanks.

Sounds like the fuel line going the the carb has a leak... either that or the metal fuel lines on the carb aren't torqued down enough... that causes a little spray as well.
