81 RX-7 Won't Stay Running

81 RX-7 with stock Nikki Carb, rats nest removed along with rest of emissions system. Removed and rebuilt carb, engine will turn over will run for 1-2 minutes then dies out. When adjusting air mix screw, car will run with screw removed from carb for about 3-4 mins then cuts off. I'm not sure, but I think I may have a vacuum problem. Anyone have a diagram of how all the hoses go with the rats nest removed.

just cap everything off. removing the rats nest does away with just about all the vacuum hoses except the ones for the dist provided u still use the vacuum advanced. did u make the necessary block off plates for the intake?

Here is a link to get you started. If the linked thread does not have all of what you are looking for then do a search with just the words, "Rats nest". You will find a lot of threads on this subject. If you use the advanced search feature then make sure and check the option of posts with the "Most" reply's to weed out the non-informational ones. :-)

just cap everything off, apart from the farthest nipple from right to left which is were the dizzy vaccum goes, remeber to t off to both diaphrams, th other one that should not be capped is the fuel bowl vent, if you do your car will flood the secondaries when you open them and going back down into the primarys it will turn off and refuse to turn on. hope that helps

Thanks, I had my vacuum advance from the dizzy on the wrong plug. To rxtaxy3, I do have the blanking plates installed, the car starts now, but I have the battery on a trickle charge due to multiple attempts to start it. Now the only problem I'm having is my choke won't actuate, any one have a pic of how the choke hooks up. I can move it manualy, but pulling the choke lever won't turn the choke at the carb. When I do it manualy the cable moves. Any Ideas

about the choke, my opinion just take it off, thats what i did, tune the carb and when your starting it cold just prime it by pumping the accelerator 3 times and then hold it 1/4 throttle and cranck it, it will crank right up, mine does even after not turning it on for days and a leaking coolant seal, so you should be good.

p.s dont forget to rev it a little after it turns on and warm it up or it will turn off.
