80 Rex Alive, but needs some help!
I know this is posted all over the site, but i didn't have time to look through them, i am sorry so dont be mad, i am currently working 11 hour days.
Heres the deal, i purchased a 1980 Rx7 with the 12a motor. It didn't run, i got some sea foam, got the seals lose and finally got it rolled over. I changed the spark plugs, distributer cap and rotor. I ran some fuel treatment through it, it had some bad gas due to sitting. I am going to drain all the fluids and replace them. "what would you suggest for fluids?"
The car will not stay idle, and it putters, i have to keep it around 3500 rpm to keep it running and i have to keep it at a high rpm to get it started otherwise she will die on me. It will putter until it hits around 4500 to 5000 rpm and then it seems to take off and ride well. Just let me know where to start and what you would do. I really need this thing to be a daily driver because i love it so much and i want her to purrr again. Thanks so much and sorry for the repeat.
I am also from Tri-Cities Washington and if someone is close to help me out i would love it. Thanks

I more or less just did the same thing to my 82. Brand new fuel made a HUGE difference. Gasolene thats a year old just doesnt have any combustion left. We just cleaned the plugs, and that was it. Have you changed the fuel filter and oil yet?
10w30 is the reccomended Oil for most RX7 applications. Depending on weather, the 10 seems to do its job all around decently.
Our idle problem is slowly going away aswell. We've ran about a third of a tank threw it and its only getting better. New fuel filters will go in after im sure their isnt any rust or anything in the tank left.

-lot of RX folks like Castrol GTX for engine- change w/filter every 3Kmiles MAX
-change diff and tranny for sure!!! Redline synthetic great if you can $pring for it
-flush brake and clutch fluids!!! will be sludge by now.
-unless you _know_ its been done recently (last 2 yrs), have the rad pulled and take to a rad shop and chem tank dunked: About $65 worth every penny. Rad is easy to pull. Change all the rad hoses AND the HEATER hoses!!!! The heater hoses _will_ fail and cook your 12a! New pressure cap and thermostat would be smart too. Replace with 50% distilled water and coolant. Rotaries are Very Fussy about having a healthy cooling system
welcome and enjoy!!
