79 Sunroof Question

I picked up a 79 RX-7 but can't get the sunroof latch to work correctly. Sure makes the later ones seem easy. How is it supposed to work? Can someone post a picture of a 79 sunroof from inside of the car? Thanks.

well to raise it all you do is flip the lever forward and push up to latch it, its not adjustable its all or nothing. to get it out completely there is a small thumb lever on the large opener. you pop it with your finger and there is a flat spot on the diameter, line it up with the grooves. now slide the lock in the front over to the open postion. push the top open like normal and from the out side pull up on the back to dissconnect it from the lever and then pull the whole thing toward the rear of the car and its free. good luck

Thanks for the info robs_seven. Does anyone have a picture of the sunroof from the inside? I'm thinking I'm missing a piece on the front of the sunroof.

I did not guess the first time. A US 79 does not have a spin style, it has the flip style.

Shepski, that is the incorrect latch for a 79, unless they did your versions differently, but I doubt that. Perhaps that is why it does not latch. Looking at your pic, the trim piece for the **** does not match the headliner profile or the hatch opening, as it should if it was the correct part.
