I am going to install an aftermarket stereo with cd player in my 7 now my problem is crutchfield has a harness for the car but...my wiring is all hacked up by previous owner. I need to know a translation of the wiring colors for the 79 I will be running all new speaker wire but still need to know what colors those are coming out of the harness as well to eliminate them from the car entirely no need to have wires kicking around that dont do anything. Guys please give me a clue I know I can testfor power but that doesnt solve the puzzle.

 

You could do it that way, OR the easier (although costs some money) way, is to go to circuit city, or best buy or whatever and order a reverse harness. This will have the stock wiring colors on it and you simply crimp connect (or solder) the wires together and now you have the "original plug" again. Then of course you need to buy the regular adapter plug for the aftermarket cd player and hook up like normal. This will make it to where down the road, if/when your radio takes a dump its a simple unplug, crimp connect new stereo to harness adapter, and plug it back in wihtout worrying about the wire colors again.

 

They do not have any adapters for this car especially not this year.
