79-85 Parts Availability

I did a search and did not find anything at all current.

I am actively looking for an 81-83 with good body and interior for a V-8 conversion, so engine parts are not a concern for me. Also, I plan on a performance suspension and brake system and aftermarket parts appear to be readily available. However, considering the car is pushing 30 years old now, I am wondering about parts availability for what I would think would be the more difficult parts to find.

Specifically, are replacement dash, weatherstripping, turn signal switch, other switches, windshield wiper motor and components, etc. available?

Also, I seem to remember issues with the later steering box/column. Are the steering box/column interchangeable for the various years?

Blackdragonauto - has nearly everything you can imagine for the RX-7 but can be expensive
RockAuto.com - Great great prices, but its usually on general service items nothing too specific.
Mazdatrix - Lots of parts but as with BDA pretty pricy.
Re-Speed - The place to go for suspension parts, brakes and other first gen race stuff

I'm probably missing a few but those are the ones I can think of off hand.

mazda is the source for most of the parts, they still have a surprising amount of stuff for these cars.

that being said they ran out of dashes a long time ago, and interior cosmetic stuff is getting spotty.

and using the rx2/3 as a guide, sheet metal and exterior trim is next

the mechanical stuff is usually really long lived

i mention mazda as a source because everyone else then becomes a middleman, hint hint

www.racingbeat.com - lots of great parts, though many will be rotary-specific (like clutches, flywheels, intake kits... though I suppose you could use most of the exhaust and fab your own manifold... their springs are also popular, performant, and inexpensive)

If mazdatrix, blackdragon and mazda don't have it, you pretty much have to post here looking for it. At least that's my experience.

I agree, you can normally find things like the dash or steering parts here on the site. Some one is always parting a car or cleaning their garage out. Look in the classified section or post a wanted ad.
