Well I have an 82 RX7 and I picked up a 79 12A engine in a trade I did a few months ago that I would like to put in the car (car has no motor). Well I was looking for a 5 speed transmission but from what I have seen in the classified and some searching they are differant in certain years?

The original wiring harness is still in the car as well for the '82 drivetrain. So I wasn't sure if that changes what I should put in the car.

So would I need a tranny for a 79 12a, or could I used a transmission for the 82 model?

if your car is an 82 you need a 81-85 tranny if you dont want to modify anything.
fyi, any motor will bolt up to any tranny.

 

Oh ok, thats cool as I would prefer to modify little as possible and figured it would be easier to just get an 82 or around that year tranny.

I have a handfull of 2nd gens but this is our only 1st gen so trying to learn these types of things on these.
