well it feels like a five speed i mean it has the h pattern and then over to the right and up should be fith right? it has a gear slot it will push almost all the way to the raido and stay but is it normal for a 4 speed to run 41/2 grand at 65-70m mph? ty again for any info

4th in a 4 speed or in a 5 speed has the same ratio. I have read that the 5th gear is the only difference in the two trans, So the spot for 5th would be there.

find a junkyard tranny, your obviously having some issues. Usually cheaper that a rebuild and whatever new parts your tranny needs. The swap is easy and the tranny is light so its not that hard to swap. My first time I did a clutch swap I was finished in about three hours so its a quick operation.
