3L220 belt breakage

Anyone else running the 3L220 having issues of them lasting less than a few hundred miles a piece under spirited driving?

If I baby the car, I can get a decent 2000 miles a belt, but that still pretty low.

where does this belt go anyway? I like to keep my belts loose as can be 1/2 inch deflection.

Once I had the alt belt tight because I got a shitty alternator from Kragen (or whatever). After 3 years the alt gave out. The bearings were shot. The belt held up.

Good thing you are actively monitering the condition of your engine, rather than hoping that strange noise/warning light will just "go away".

The first one I got from Pineapple Racing broke in about 2 miles. I called them and they happily replaced it.

Been going strong ever since.

I was using a cheap alt belt from pep boys that barely did 200mi before completely tearing apart. Replaced for free, but I have no confidence in this brand. I couldn't tell you who it was, gray package I believe.

Why am I shredding alt belts after a few seconds with a 3L220 on a S5 front cover assy? I don't want to have to cut the belt off because it will keep me on my 35 mile journey to get a proper alt belt, which I now will need to get in the morning.

Guys, the 3l220 is very tight and I've read of some eating water pump bearings, and also they are very hard to install and frequently break. I don't know if the "yahoo" belt is the same as the 220 or not. I went to a 3l230 and although it looks too loose, I've been running it for several years of autocrossing with no belt slippage or any other bad side effects. It is my first choice but you make your own call.

I loosened my alt belt just a hair; deflection to 11/32", and it doesn't chirp even at 8500. If I have problems with the 3L220, I'll go to a 3L230.

My Isuzu would eat belts but the pulley was slightly off center at an angle.
