when I had the front bumper off my car, those OEM headlight assembly was just begging to be replaced.

I wonder if Mazda designed those ugly headlight pop ups because in wanted to have a low leading edge on the bumper while at the same time meeting the DOT reg's for headlight height. And if I do this upgrade, will the car pass state vehicle inspections?

That's it? Spandex and resin !!

I meant the white car, and i have the measurements for a housing using two 4" lens.

I have it all drafted up in AutoCAD, I have yet to finalize a design though...

Which headlight assembly would be it be best to upgrade too based on size, ease of installment, price, and availiability?

as a start :http://www.usautoparts.net/catalog/?...ght+assemblies

Any better suggestions that I should consider?

Mazda put pop up headlights in the 7 becuase it was standard practice for all sports cars. In the 40's, 50's, and early 60's it wasn't classified a sports car unless it had popup headlights. That's why i don't get why people get rid of them. It's a homage to classic sports cars.

agree. i always considered a pop up the biggest jewel of the 1st gen. It is probably single most distinctive feature of the car day time, and at night i can recognize 1st get from far out behind me.

on another here i am building something different, but for stock look +1

i have found a inexpensive mustang projection headlights, if anybody interested in similar installation. Add says needs minor repair, which most likely (to be verified) means no harm.

yea everyone who bought their flush mount felt ripped off because it required extensive modification to work and look good. I'd still like a set, but I like my pop ups I just wish they weighed less... the kit did look great when finished.
