Im using an S4 starter from the junkyard for $30 on my GSL-SE... goes right on using the FC nut & bolt, making it easier to install (the threads arent on the housing like on the 1st gen). Its a few pounds lighter and cranks up faster.

I *THINK* that only works on 13B powered cars (with 13B flywheels)

Short answer is yes an S4 NA starter will work, but you'll need to figure out some different bolts.

Have you considered having your starter rebuilt?
Most places can rebuild them better than new for around $50.

Or check it out yourself... Depending on what's wrong you might be able to fix the problem for $0.....

I have had a starter from a 13b for over a year now my car suffers from low compression and since changing to the 13b starter its starts much better not that it cured my problem but surely has prolonged me having to do a rebuild. Just my .02

Just go and buy a rebuilt one at Canadian Tire, I think they are around 115$ canadian. But the best part is it's guaranteed for 2 years.

Then go to a hardware store and get a long bolt and a nut. The short bolt will still work, but won't go in as deeply into the tranny because the S4 starter flange is thicker.
