2nd gen fuse box

On the second gen fuse box there are two large wires (10 AWG?) and a smaller wire (12 AWG?) bolted on at the center "main fuse" position. Which side goes to the alt and which goes to the battery (starter terminal)? What is the smaller wire for? If there is an online source for a 2nd gen wire diagram it should show this info. Any reference to a site with the wire diagrams?

Negative...

Oh ****, I mean NO! (Do not hook the fuse block to the negative side of your battery!)

One side of the main fuse connects to all the other little sub fuses... One side is on it's own.

Pele, he only asked about the large main fuse on the 2nd gen panel. Its the power. Every wire he mentioned above are power wires.

wecycle, what are the colors on said wires?

ALT or BAT?

I think it should be hooked up so that the 80 amp "Main" bolted in fuse link (single wire) is on the alt side of the block so alternator output goes through the "main" fuse link. The other large wire on the other side of the block would then go to the hot terminal on the starter (battery positive). This would put the buss that feeds the plug in fuse links on the battery side of the main fuse along with the smaller bolted on wire. This side of the block would be constant 12 v regardless of the key position and even if the main fuse were to blow. Anyone have a clue what the smaller bolted on wire is for?
Thanks for the responses so far.

I'm a radio telecommunications technician and a ham radio operator...

Affirm and Negative have replaced yes and no...

I'm still working on making the phonetic alphabet second nature.

wire colors

John64:
The two large wires that are bolted on are black. (they look like 10awg)The smaller bolted on wire is red, which often means 12v positive and looks like 12awg. The load side of the wires that feed from the plug in fuse links are White/green tracer and red dots, Black/green tracer, Red/black dots, White/green tracer and red dots, (these four look like 14awg and have 30 amp fuses) White/red tracer, Black (these two look like 12awg and have 60amp fuses). Note that the wire gauges are estimates so I may be a size.
Anyone know of a site with the 2nd gen wire diagrams?

wecycle. this is going into a first gen, correct? Why do you need the wire information from a 2nd gen? When I did my swap I did power from the alt to the main input on the block.

wire diagram

I listed the wire colors because someone asked. They do not make any difference for my install in the 1979. The wire diagram should show what the red bolted on wire was for. It would feed from the battery side of the fuse box. I am guessing it might be the main feed to the under dash fuse panel.

My main feed I believe was a white wire with red strip to under the dash.
