2nd battery in bin space area…?
2nd battery in bin space area…?
I’d like to put a 2nd battery behind my driver seat where the bins used to go. Long term goal is to eventually lose the battery in the engine compartment especially when I *FINALLY* put the AC back. It’s right where the compressor sits and everything’s kinda packed in that area. I have heavy gauge wire already from work so that’s free. And I’d like to see if two batteries makes a difference in the meantime. Any ideas…?
It supplys more cca and will provide less resistance (less heat and strain on the wires not a huge deal with such a small engine). Diesel trucks usually have 2 batteries for these reasons. It has no negative effects in the mean time. Just make sure the battery's are possitive to possitve, not possitive to negative or you'll end up with 24 volts.

I run a Duralast Gold 24 DLG in my car in the original battery tray.
When I went into AutoZone years ago to buy it, they said what is your car?
I said a 1983 Mazda RX7.
They said it wouldn`t fit.
It does. The one that they were trying to sell me would work fine for the factory set-up. That alternator is I think.............maybe 55~60 or so amps?
What is the reason that you want a second?
A high powered audio system to connect it with?
I am running 4 10 inch Isobaric Subs in the storage compartments.
All of the amps are behind the back cloth by the rear window.
The deck is in the glove box and I am even running the center channel speaker in the space where the radio was.
No one can see ANYTHING.
How creative do you want to get?
How much time do you want to put into it?
The sub enclosures are custom fiber glass. I did all of the work myself. They are tune ported that get really active around 30 Hz..
With 500 Watts just going into the Subs, I can rattle everything around me. 500 more Watts to the mids and highs.
Audio Control signal processors and Nakamichi cross-overs are in the signal chain.
I went Dr. Diabolical on my car.
You are going to have to upgrade your alternator as well, to power that kind of audio.
I have a thread in this section on how to do it.
It was cheap for me.
Around 50 bucks when everyone else is spending 600 or more to do it.
I custom cut the dual belt pulley for the alternator on my lathe here at home.
I can do it again.
You are going to have to have a higher current output alternator to power a system like mine.
Pull-A-Part was my friend.
Saved a bunch when I pursued my "Endeavor".
You don`t need two batteries.
You need a larger one like I have and a higher current output alternator.
If I can find the link of my project, I will post it.
ETA, I found the link.
Here it is.
