2 piece wheel adapters safe?
2 piece wheel adapters safe?
Well I keep whining about adapters becasue i have a realy nice set of 5 lug wheels with almost new tires off a previous car(FWD 38mm offset), that I would realy like to put on the 7.
I wouldnt have the opportunity to do a disc swap until December on the car, so would a 2 piece wheel adapter(4x110-5x100) be a safe alternative, with loctite, to the CPracing adapters?
Also, I understand that a 1.25" adapter works well with 38-40mm offset wheels....the 2 piece adapters are 1.8". is that going to be too wide with 205/40/17 tires?
thanks,
Zac

i have a 2 piece adapter on my car. no loctite either. it should be safe. i take the car hard up the mtns and its still hold hard. my adapter is also 1.25in thick. i dunno about the offset tho.
Marginally safe but most likely too wide for the existing body without modification. Anyway try them as it is a pity to have better wheels lying around unused.
For other comment go search as there has been previouazs threads on the subject. For example the view of Manntis who knows his stuff:-
"not a bad idea. except it blws your offset measurements all to hell. Then there's the matter of most of that billet aluminum machined away to accomodate the lug nuts, leaving a very thin layer of soft metal the only thing holding on your wheel studs".
