idk if stance was still making them or not. butttt regardless T3 ^ is the way to go! i have them on mine all corners, pricey but worth it. you can wait for a used set to come up for sale but it may be a while and you'll have to act fast as they'll sell quick

T3 weld-on kit for the front
Build your own rear setup
Save 50% on the T3 full kit and spend the extra money somewhere else on the car

Can I also suggest ACBron Ultimate coilovers. Engineered from the ground up specifically for the 1st gen with its own proprietary components (and not sourced from off the shelf components specified for other cars which happen to have similar dimensions), based on 20 years of experience with track racing RX-7s. They're in Australia but ship worldwide and the AUD exchange rate is currently very favourable to US buyers (1 USD = 1.4+ AUD). See: Suspension Coilovers Ulitmate Version for Early Mazdas Pre 1985 and https://www.facebook.com/ACBRONMotorsport/

What is your goal in changing from stock suspension? Road racing? Autocross? Stance? ????

ACBRON definitely has the best designed coilovers for our cars aye. Just to add on what KYPREO said

Anyone have a detailed list of the parts needed to build the rear coilovers? I have looked into it but I couldnt find the type of sleeves with the lower lock. Heres a picture of a set someone built:

^ I've always wondered what the advantage of doing that is instead of using the stock spring perches with lowering springs or adjustable perches? Unless you were re-designing the upper trailing arms to get rid of the silly angle they're on perhaps.

If you search there are some long threads that show the different options.

I have been happy so far with my Stance coilovers. I have had them for three years now and am running them with all Techno Toy Tuning front suspension hardware (Control arms and tension rods).

The T3 hardware is very nice, I love their products.

ACBRON also looks to be top notch, and the AUS USD rate is so good it is not even fair. When I buy stuff from the States I multiply by 1.3...

Also, I have been considering this as a next step for a front brake setup:

MSF Racing Components

ACBRON was apparently coming out with a brake package but it s not out yet.

Read some if the reviews on MSF on AusRotary.com. not great. I've also seen their hubs and they're terrible. ACBron do custom brakes and will built whatever you want. They're making my setup, FD calipers on FD discs on FC hubs/uprights with braided lines etc.

There are tons of fc kits on ebay for cheap. Is there an easy way to get those to fit?

Yes. If you do an FC subframe swap the coilovers will bolt right on.

the strut top is different and the valving and spring rates will be to suit an FC, a car which weighs around 300kg more. ACBron makes a 1st gen RX7 Ultimate Coilover with different base mount to suit FC knuckles/uprights. This is what is on my car.

OMG, thats some SA suspension **** right there!

If someone was to do all these mods, would they even come close to the kind of handling newer cars have, say a maxima or 370 z?

oh and I have RB springs on mine, but their about as wide as the factory ones. It limits the width of tire you can run or the tire might rub the shock. can you run wider tires with coilovers?

In my opinion an FB/SA with coilovers and sticky 205/50/15 tires can outhandle a lot of newer cars! they weigh so much less

So you don't recommend their hubs eh? I looked around on Ausrotary, I didn't see anything that was negative.

I am looking at MSF hubs so I can continue to use my small bearing spindles and change my hub pattern to 4x114.3. My coilovers were built around the small bearing hubs (maybe a silly decision...).

Here is what I have on my car:
-All new tie rods (Moog), idler arm etc
-Sway bar bushings, new end links etc
-Stance Coilovers front and rear (rear are adjustable spring perches, not coils)
-Techno Toy Tuning strut brace (however much a strut brace helps.. maybe our chassis is a bit flexy)
-Techno Toy Tuning Adjustable Lower Control Arms (no bushings, solid rod ends)
-AE86 ball joints (beefer and correct roll center slightly)
-TTT tension rod, no bushing (solid mount to frame) with rod ends
-15x7 wheels with 195 and 205 50/15 S.Drives
-Just a bit of negative camber

The TTT parts are absolutely top notch and very well priced. Go look at a set of new OEM control arms haha.

If you are just driving the car on the street and want to lower it some, the RB springs are great. They are stiffer than stock, but will not knock your teeth out and I think the stance is good. They aren't as sexy as coilovers, but you can't see them anyway. Tokico blues work great with the RB springs. KYB's are probably fine too if you aren't racing. In my opinion too many people suspend there car with components that are great for racing, but beat the crap out of you on a daily basis. I have gone down that road myself and wasn't pleased.

YMMV

I'm running RB springs front and back with RB front sway bar and KYB shocks front and back. Not many miles on a hodgepodge of parts........but I'm pretty sure I will end up putting a RB rear sway bar soon after getting on the road.

Tell me if this sounds right.....I have a v-8 in mine and no speedo yet etc..... but on break-in of the engine I just wasn't aware of how damn fast the thing is..... anywho I was doing probably 70-80mph based on my gear and came into a sweeping (35 mph) left hand corner when I had to jump on the brakes and had an oh $hit moment. Brakes worked great, but what concerns me is it felt like the rear end got light on the drivers side. I.e the weight shifted too much towards the corner. pretty un nerving.

I've read about you should remove the rear sway bar, but i have not tried with one. based on that experience I am pretty sure I will get one.

Does that sound normal for one of these cars?

Sounds like since you were going so fast you had a lot of body roll, and experienced the roll and bind of the stock rear end. No rear sway bar may help. I have built some drop brackets and trailing arms to combat that

This is why for autox folks run without the rear sway bar. Lets the rear end come around faster on corners but you have to expect it. Its nothing to do with binding, its how the car works. For high speed track or road driving a rear sway bar helps keep it planted on high speed sweepers like you hit.
