1st Gen Ignitor Interchange?
Okay, finding that my trailing ignitor is DOA, I went in search of one at the local boneyards. No one had any. Heck, no one had any RX7's my vintage (85). The cheapest new I found was $150 at the local parts place.
So, my question, will early or later RX7 ignitors work on an 85 12A, meaning... will say an 81,82, or 83 unit work? Same goes for an 86,87 unit.
I am thinking than an earlier 12A unit would work, like an 82, and I might know where one of those is at.
Any thoughts appreciated.

You could learn a lot from a dummy... er uh I mean me! Yes any '81-'85 RX-7 ignitor will work. It needs to have the Mitsubishi three diamond symbol and J-109 in raised numbers at the bottom of the front face. The other number above that looks like it's been stamped in there is just a production run and/or date code.
If all you can find is an '80 J-105, it'll still work, but won't fit the distributor very well (can fit in Leading position, but good luck in the Trailing position). You also can't use any parts out of an '86 or later and expect them to work with your stock distributor stuff. People have retrofitted their cars, but only after researching everything necessary for such a swap.

Okay, great, I'm on the trail of an 82 parts car that may have what I'm after, plus another forum member is selling me a couple I hope, so I should have my tach working very soon.
Thanks for the info, it is appreciated.
