I think Mannits says it best here...

The whole reason why I have two 1st gens is because they are fun.

Fun to work on, fun to learn about, fun to chat with others with, fun to have people come up to you and share their memories they had with a 1st gen, ect... The 1st gen is a beauty of it own caliper. It might not be twin turbo, or larger engine (except for the GSL-SE), have newer technology, but it has it's own presence on the road.

First gens can be really fast, though...

It's really got a distinct look to it when it's cruising around.

I agree 100%.

It feels like a brother hood to me.

I saw a tan gsl-se the other day, went way out of my way to go say hi to him. If ever i see another 1st gen (that is taken care of, not some trashy "my first car" deal), i always have mucho respect, and try to make a friend

1st gen dudes DO rule!!!

That's right! =) first gen people do rule!

We've had a first gen in my family for 18 years now and even after 210, 000 km it still runs like it's new. It was given to me by my dad for my 18th birthday on the grounds that I'de take care of it as well as he did. and dammit! I'm gonna take care of that car! It has no rust, hasnt been in an accident and the only thing that doesnt work is the retractable antenna, which I plan to fix! go 1st gens! =>

me too, my dad drives a chevy powered rex, and i love the torque of the car, theres no way that my first gen's nose comes up when you slam it like my dad's car. but i love the sounds, and pull of the rotary, and just thinking whats pulling it..

but in the same sence, my point is that is all preference. im not trying to get into a rotary piston battle. but my point of view is that, its their car, not yours. being someone who has actually driven both, the chevy engine in a rex chasis is a great thing, handles almost as good as before, has SOOO much torque. it comes down to, what kind of racing you want. off the line, or auto x. i support both. im keeping the rotary in my car, but im saying, if someone handed me a built 350 with the money to do the conversion... it would be done. but im not going that route.. rotaries are GREAT engines, some people jsut want something else in their cars. my point is that they were attacking some guy about his project car that had no engine or tranny, and he stated he was planning on a ford swap.

sorry i wrote so much.. i just think people bitch about other rex owners wanting to swap their engines to a piston, its their car, leave it alone.

me and my dad spent 6 months doing his car, and that was 3 years ago and hes still messing with things. i think its a VERY badass car. it was a project for me and my dad to do together. everything was fabricated, everything was kept under $2200 i believe is what he said. and when you want power.. damn its there. and of course you could do that with a rotary engine.. but like i said earlier.. its a preference, and tats what i was saying about this guy on ebay
Man, that was just plain refreshing!!!
Thank you for that. You epitomize the title of this thread.
