Well I don't know if I can help with motivation or not. If you think you have a long project ahead of you, click on the 'My toy' link in my sig line. Nearly 9 months of working full time, thought it would take 3, lol.
Since I'm not traveling to help and don't drink, here is my little bit of motivation, take it in good humor. Now get busy and have fun.

Many of us have been in your shoes, my project car (a total teardown and body restoration, along with lots of other goodies thrown in for good measure) took over 2 years, thats while working 25 hours a week, being a full time student, and being in a serious relationship with a girl that lives 60 miles away (one way!!) so you'll get it done, just takes time, and believe me its worth it in the end. Remeber its not a race, building the car is half the fun (for me at least) so just take your time and enjoy it, who cares if it takes a while to complete.

Whenever I have a long term project I just stage it, and dedicate a certain amount of time every so many days to it... it's how I get things done but don't feel obligated to get it all done asap. It took us about 2-3 weeks just to pull a transmission and strip off a sieged pilot bearing along with doing the clutch etc. We special ordered all the right seals when we needed them, waited each time, did it right and enjoyed ourselves with beers outside on a Sunday when we had the parts. If you try to do it all immediately it can kinda burn you out but over time things build up and you turn around one day and go... man... this thing is really coming along. The other nice thing about taking your time is you do a more quality job on each part since you are focused.

one more question i have been wanting to ask is what kind of engine management system should i run? microtech, motec, haltec or what? i have the factory ecu but dont have the factory mass. and from what i hear pointless to get this thing working anyway. i will prob gutt the wires and start fresh im good at electrical and so is my friend (who owes me BIG let him borrow my 87rx7 for a month!) you know me if you have read the other stuff above i just want to get something else to put on my floor. jk i am going to get busy borrowing another friends sandblaster going to do the bottom and engine bay after i take out engine and then paint and drop the "new" engine in!

Budget wise, you might look into MegaSquirt for a stand alone. In some aspects, it is more robust and tuneable for the diy builder and at 500 for a prebuilt kit, you can't beat the price. The nice thing is all the software is open source. If your MotecMicrotech, forget which one, goes down, you have to ship it to Austraila for repairs. With the MS, you open up the box and make repairs with off the shelf parts from Radio Shack.
