To day I got a little happy with the wire cutters. I started by removing the wires that went to the stock 12a ecu.

Then I decided to go ahead and remove all other unnecessary wires from the engine bay.

I think I might have an aluminum dash made and use a painless wiring harness and a after market heater/blower like this.

Cool. Wiring is always a painful, evil thing to troubleshoot, so it's cool that in your case you can just trash all the stock wiring and run your own for everything you need.

Edit: I've always wondered... the driver's side engine bay wiring harness.. does that come into the car then solder into the fuse box and other under-the-dash stuff, or is there a connector under there somewhere that you can disconnect and push through the firewall?

My guess is that if it was the latter you wouldn't have taken the dash out, but it's worth asking

Yea, its usually not that fun to trouble shoot wiring but doing this stuff is fun.

Unfortunately it looks like there is no connector, but I will know for sure tomorrow when I start weeding out the inside wiring.

Well I removed the entire front harness from the inside and under the hood of the car.

Then I started weeding out the infidels.

I finally removed all the unnecessary stuff, all that is left is the fuse block, blinkers, lights, front wipers, windows, mirrors, fuel sending unit, gas door, hatch opener, and a couple more wires for the cluster.

Tomorrow I hope to get the engine bay prepped for painting it (extensive cleaning, grinding, and bondoing unnecessary holes). I still need to figure out what to paint the engine bay, I am thinking light silver or maybe even try to get my out side color of paint in a rattle can.

No disco, and there are some wires that go to the passenger side that go over the steering colum bracket, and maybe the pedals bracket iirc. At least in an 84 I stripped. You have to loosen/remove the bracket to get the harness out, quite the pain.

It was an Aussie guy, he hid all the wires.

I have contemplated running a alum dash with aftermarket gauges and heater. I will be curious to see how yours turns out.

Well I received the flares yesterday, I will order the wheels soon just need to measure a couple of things. I will be borrowing a better welder to finish up the engine bay and get it painted up next week. Then the rewiring fun begins.

I take it those are Datsun 240Z flares? Please include a few pics of any trimming/adjusting you have to do for the rest of us that want some decent flares. Awesome project, keep it up.

OMG! I thought i was the only person intersted in a 13b-rew swap into a first gen....everybody thinks im crazy! Im glad to see yours is coming along nicely! I may have some questions for you. I havent started my project, but i am this spring. Any tips for a rotary fanatic? I just want a wicked fast first gen...the stock 255ish horsepower (i think) should be enough for me...give me an e-mail, help out a brotha-froma-notha-motha.

OMG so many wires LOL! I think one day in the future all car ECUs will be wireless......eliminating the use for all those damn wires LOL!

Is there a "painless" option for our cars yet?

kevinbtx wat apex seals are you going to use bro are you going super seals or
atkins? Im not sher are you going to brideg port. I can see your in the pic that your not i was Just asking the car and motor work looks very nice :shocking:

Since I had really good luck with the Rotary Aviation seals I will probably use there new Super Seal. I was advised against bridge porting with the setup I have.
