1985 13b timing
help i have a 85 13b rx7
i reciently rebuilt the motor completely (all new seals). when i tryed to start the car it would not start. so i changed the distributor to a setting were the marks on the distributor gear & shaft do not line up and kept advancing it till the car started. Now when i use a timing light on the leading plug the leading timing mark is no were near the indicator pin, it is at least 45 deg off. when i change the distributor to align the marks the car it will bearly idle. is there a special timing light that has to be used for rotor engines? has anybody had this trouble?
new cap, rotor,plugs wires.

It sounds like you might have installed the pulley incorrectly. You can find TDC by removing the spark plugs on the rear rotor housing and turning the engine over by hand until one of the apex seals is halfway between L and T. That should be approximately TDC on the front rotor and is close enough to get the pulley installed correctly.
thx so much for your help. i had the pulley spun 45 deg and didn't know it. i removed the fan and belts a then fixed the pulley in about an hour and a half. then timed the motor. it runs great.
