What's with the two piece rear louver?

BTW, that's an '83 or older-the '84s & '85s have a different interior.

If it runs good, it's worth $600. Someone thought enough of it to give it a repaint

If the body is straight, then a non-running RX-7 is worth about $500...buy it ASAP, you've got the perfect basic building block right there in front of you....The 1981 model is absolutely perfect...it has the old style curvy "sportscar" interior and dash layout that is timeless (vs.the 84/85 boxy layout that dates the car...) but you get the swoopy exterior treatment that all the body kits are made for. I prefer the '79/'80 rear treatment, but the whole look really blends well together in the /81-'85 RX-7s...plus emissions compliance should be a non-issue for this year car in most smog-**** states in 2006, meaning next year will be the last time it has to pass the sniffer...Opportunity is knocking, open the damn door...

It looks decent, and for the price, it's not bad. Be prepared to spend at least another $600 on it to get it into the shape you desire. Keep in mind it's an old car, so don't jump into something you aren't ready to handle.

FYI: I wouldn't pay more than $100 for that car if it wasn't running, and chances are: you would be hard-pressed to find someone that would.

MAN you guys are ******* cheap lol. I don't mean that as an insult, really. I just find it hilarious! Dude, that car, if it's running great, is totally worth $600 haha. Just buy the damn thing and start lookin around on the forum for performance parts to blow your cash on

Even with these problems ...
1. completely messed interior
2. it would need a whole new suspention
3. electric windows need to be fixed...
4. headlights need to be fixed (wont fip up )
5. would need new tires...
6. no stereo ... no speakers ...
7. possible need to replace the windsheild

I'm not seeing that here at all....sure the dash cap is cheesy, but the rest looked OK...junkyard interior stuff in good shape is not all that hard to find...

2. it would need a whole new suspention

Replace the rear shocks and you're done for a while...the rest can be done as you need/can afford it. If you drove it and it felt good braking, just replace pads for now and you don't have to worry about that, either, for a while.

3. electric windows need to be fixed...

This issue has been beat to death in this Forum, do the search engine route and you'll find the threads that tell you how to fix this yourself on the cheap.

4. headlights need to be fixed (wont fip up )

Purely an electrical problem almost always easily solved. It could be as simple as the switch on the dash surround has been unconnected to get them to stay down. Or someone changed the battery and hit the connector harness for the headlamp motor hard enough to unconnect it. Or the rods have lost their bushings and won't stay on as the motor for the covers spin. All examples I have seen and solved in minutes for other owners, previously.

5. would need new tires...

Resist the "need" for hi-po tires and just go down to your local arab tire replacer. These guys around here can sell a good used tire with lots of tread and mount it for $20 per tire...you can get your set of Bridgestone S-03 Pole Position tires later as you save up some moolah...

6. no stereo ... no speakers ...

Irrelevant for now...you can hit a pawn shop or eBay for something to get you by on the exteme cheap...inbetween installs or upgrades that kept getting put off, I've been without tunes in a rex for over a year...no sympathy here on that point...

7. possible need to replace the windsheild

Just bullet holes...get a $20 kit for fixing those kinds of glass damage from Autozone, O'Reilly's or Pep Boyz and they become a non-issue.

Look at these pics...

If that car had a dead engine, it would be worth $500. You're getting a "good" engine of unknown mileage for $100...if it doesn't smoke on start-up, you're getting a hell of a deal.

It really sounds like you want someone to talk you out of it or make your Dad right...for $600, I'd buy it, clean under the hood and spray it with a clearcoat and color-sand it in my driveway, then sell it for $1500...

HAHA a mid 80's Camaro compared to an RX-7. No contest. This car is FAR more reliable, and most likely more fun unless some wacko dropped a 454 into that Camaro

Considering that the body is good the posts saying it's worth $600 are accurate, but do yourself a favor:

Fork over $50 to $100 to have an independant mechanic check it out prior to purchase--- if the front unibody frame members are rusted through (or some other equally devastating problem is discovered) it won't be worth anything exept maybe for parts. And have the VIN checked and title CLEARED! If it comes back stolen or liened to the hilt you're screwed.
Otherwise, it looks like a worthy candidate for restoration.

BTW, if the speedo cable is unhooked from the instrument cluster there's only a one in ten chance that the odometer hasn't been spun or even had the cluster swapped.

if i lived near you i would buy this car and drive past your house everyday just for trying to convince yourself not to buy it...

will you go buy this car already and stop argueing its worth? sheesh!

i agree with the vin check no matter how the car looks...
