1984 Overheat Exhaust System SENSORA

An exhaust overheat SENSOR has never been installed in the passenger floor above the catalytic converter. A Sensor apparently is in the system because the instrument panel Exhaust Overheat light glows constantly in error. Will you please tell me how to find that Sensor ?_____. Please don't quote Workshop Manual mininformation to me which wrongly advises that Sensor is in the passenger floor above the catalytic converter. It is not there. None has ever been there.
Thank you, jer.

Thank you Mr. Williams. There is no passenger seat in my car. There has never been a Sensor in the passenger floor beneath the carpets, beneath the padding, over the catalytic converter, or anywhere in the passenger floor. Will a Mazda Factory Workshop Manual truthfully tell the location of that Sensor ?_____
My 3 Chilton & Haynes manuals wrongly describe the position of that sensor. Thank you, jer.

It is exactly where wwilliam54 suggested you look, I assure you It rests pretty near to the base of the passenger's seat belt. It can be seen through the little flap in the carpet that snaps over the seat belt base (If you've got carpet)

I would suggest that perhaps without the sensor the idiot light just stays on? I do not know this for a fact though.

What page in haynes mentions the sensor? I couldn't find it in mine when I looked briefly.

the light may stay on because the wire that was once there is now grounded, but would have to have power going to it. so, perhaps someone used that wire to wire something else up, not knowing what it is and thinking because it has power, it can be used for anything to be wired into.

Thank you Mr. Enigma32 for your kind effort to help me. Unfortunately, your assurance did not magically produce the heat sensor. Repeating former history:No seat, no carpets, no pads, merely clean bare floor. No two holes ever drilled for the two sheet metal screws which normally attach the Sensor.

That Sensor is mentioned in my Haynes Repair Manual on pages:245 & 253 & 257 & 269 & 271 & 273. You requested the above information. Thank you for your kind efforts to help me. jer.

I've peeked through the Haynes manual...
Do you have the harness coming around from the passenger-rear of the car? (It loops all the way around from the drivers-front, under the dash) Might be easiest to find by tracing it from where the jack-stand is stored....

More specifically, Can you find the 2-pin male connector that would plug into the sensor? (It is at the end of that harness)

Thank you enigma32. "More specifically, Can you find the 2-pin male connector that would plug into the sensor? (It is at the end of that harness" That is what I have been trying to do. jer.

Did you find the harness?
If you find it you can trace it all the way to the connector (or perhaps lack thereof).

if you can't find the two pin connector and you are wanting the system functioning, perhaps you could build your own connector. i think somewhere in the system, the wire is or was hot and has grounded. have you consulted the wiring diagram for this wire? if you can't find it and are curious, i have the factory service manual and if you wanted, i would trace it for you or scan it and email it to you.
