the red wire is eaither the hand brake sensor.. or a power wire to a light. (there is 2 red ones under there, i think)

the other one looks like the plug from the switch that makes the head lights go up without the light.
have u got the colours of the wire? i will look it up in the haynes book to be sure

The red and black ones are the auto trans shift indicator light wires.

Don't plug those together unless you hate having dash lights.

The other one looks like a stereo connection.

Those are the only wires in the shift boot area.

Just those 2 bulleted wires....which I thought would go together.....but I think are a positive and negative. They are taped together into the harness.

The other plastic clip thing.......is the only other set of wires.

I didn't see anything for these things to connect to.

I can help in this. They are ALL for the automatic shifter. When I removed my automatic shifter, I had to disconnect all the wires in the picture

The bulleted connection that looks like it supposed to be together but is not. I put them together once and SO true the Dash lights went out.... I just change the dimmer switch(for fix).

hornbn is right on!!! the plug is for the overdrive switch, and the other two wires are for the shift selector light

By the way, those two bullet connectors are the ones that will fry your dimmer switch and make all the lights on your dash for your gauges not work anymore, as well as the ones in the center console if you connected them, or if they touched at any point .

I was dying trying to figure out what happened there.

I DID connect them one day when I had the cover off the shiftboot area.

I thought...hmm.....I wonder why these are discconnected...(connects them). Hmm....no strange noises...no new lights on. Oh well. (disconnects them).

Later that day....."Where's my guage pod lights?"

Makes perfect sense now. Are the dimmer switches hard to find? Can I bypass it?

Oh man, am I glad I didn't test those wires...

I was workin on a stereo installation and saw the bulleted ones and plugged em together... but then I thought "If they weren't plugged in before, and everything works fine, I probablyyy shouldn't touch these" and unplugged em. I think my battery wasn't hooked up at the time, so I was saved! Damn Mazda and their bullet connecters. And damn them for that other white one, too, I plugged my stereo into that and pumped power back through my speaker leads aghhh.

automatic shifter stuff, the 2 bullet connections are the lights, and the 4 pin is the nuetral safety, in park etc stuff? never had a slugomatic so dunno LOL

I dont think theyre hard to find. Hell, I have one in my parts car. I know there are people that have bypassed it on here, I just dont know how. I bet if you tried to search you could find it .

That dimmer switch is just a variable resistor. To "bypass" it, pull it out and cut the two wires and solder them together. This will make the dash lights stay in their brightest mode all the time.
