1984 GSL-SE for sale

Hello folks,

as you may or may not be aware, my 84 SE is a few feet shorter than it was a few weeks ago. everyone was ok, but Roxanne has been deemed a "write-off".

I settled, and I'm happy. my insurance company came through.... after I finally got the third party information to them getting me off the hook for the accident. the cop took his sweet time preparing the report. I had a close call and was almost up the creek without an rx7 when they looked at my list of mods I tried to claim for. they phoned me and said they were investigating, and it's quite possible I have violated my policy. silly me I desribed the list as follows:

RACING BEAT this, RACING BEAT that... stuff done by MAZDEES AUTO & PERFORMANCE this and that

they saw that list and waved a big flag. I was able to weazle (sp?) my way out by explaining that all the modifications were improving the handling, safety, braking etc. of the car, and were by no means affecting the safety in a negative way. that was also before I sent the 3rd party info. once they had the girl's info and were assured that she was charged, I was ok.

lesson learned: don't try to hide things from your insurance people. if you modify your car to make it faster etc., tell them. you'll just get screwed in the end. I was ok because I had yet to attempt a turbo install and only had a factory replacement engine. I had full stainless exhaust, better brake pads (they were weary of those) and the strut bar (they didn't like that either).

soooo, if I ever have another rx7 in the future I will get it appraised and pay more for insurance..... maybe.

NOW: my car is for sale!!!
I was contemplating transfering all the parts over to another 1st gen and driving it occasionally next year, but I really don't have time these days for this type of project. I am looking into a bike for next season (I know I know) and so I think this car could benefit someone else more than me.

the car was hit on the front, and slightly off to the passengers side corner. the passenger side front wheel was pushed back into the wheel well. but all four wheels are fine. so are the tires (60-70% tread left).

I got the car home thursday night, and started to take it apart friday (anticipating to transfer everything over to another 7) BUT then had a change of heart and stopped. I didn't want to remove everything in the engine compartment etc. because I thought if someone wanted to buy the whole car they might like it all in place.

the radiator suffered some terminal damage and has been removed, so has the clutch fan. the water pump pulley shaft sheered off, so the belt attaching the alternator and water pump to the crank were no longer working. I did free everything from the front of the engine and started it though. due to the fact that there was no coolant in the car I only ran it for 20 seconds (and there was no battery charging capabilities either). the engine sounded just like it did before the accident. no weird sounds at all.

it is my understanding that the 2nd gen motors have engine mounts on the side of the block instead of the SE's front engine mount brace??? well this appears to have saved the block from probable damage. that brace was twisted a bit, but the engine survived!! cool.

the cone air filter I had was crushed, but the AFM is fine. so aside from the minor task of replacing the water pump housing, the engine is perfect. I replaced it at 205,000 kms. and the car now has 263,000 kms. as almost everyone who has driven with (or been passed by) the car, it pulls hard!! (for a 1st gen ) Will has driven many 7's and had a very quick 83. he drove it not too long ago and said it was "a rocket".

the LSD differential was rebuilt by Mazdees last season and is strong and hooks up real well. I had just replaced the rear brake pads before the accident, with OEM pads.

the front pads are Hawk HP's and are about 1/3 worn I think.

a new stainless exhaust was installed by Mazdees earlier this season and is in tip top shape (the muffler tip may be borderline "rice" for some, but that's what he put on for me ). it has a Racing Beat header, stainless cat, stainless pre-silencer, stainless muffler, and all stainless connecting pipes.

the interior is amazing shape (aside from the bent steering wheel, the plastic pieces under the steering wheel where my knees went through and two rips in the roof (above the seats) where my big sub woofer flew around (lucky there). the cloth seats are excellent condition, no rips etc. the dash is perfect. the fuel level sensor was replaced by mazda 3 years ago.

both doors did not sustain any injury.

I think this car would best benefit someone as a whole instead of me parting it all out, but if there's not enough interest I will part it out.

I would like $2500.00 obo for the car as it sits. I will even throw in the Sony CD, equalizer etc. I think that's a decent price considering the reman engine itself (just the block) is $2300 from mazda. you will get all the engine components (intake, ignition, computer, injectors, tranny, rebuilt diff ($800), exhaust ($1000), wheels and tires, interior etc.

if you have any questions, email me at:

ladams@odim-spectrum.com

I will try to take some more pictures tonight.

I hope this car goes to a good home.
take care
Leigh
