FL 1984 GSL "How do I check the Neutral Switch?"

I've been trying to figure this out now for months.
I own a 1984 12A GSL w/auto trans.
The car wont start or just starts intermittently.

I have replaced almost every part that has to do with starting the car apart from getting a new engine. (out of the question)
Battery, Starter, Starter Solenoid, Battery Cables and Terminals, Ignition Switch, Fuses, Alternator, Belts.

The only things I can still thing that would make the car not start as it is. Are the Neutral Safety Switch /Inhibitor Switch or the Ignition again.

When I turn the key to ON I have power. But as when I turn it to START I get nothing . No Solenoid click. I hot wired the starter yesterday and the car turns over and starts. But when I try to use the key. Nothing.

I am competent enough with making a bypass for the Neutral Switch but as far as I can tell from the FSM it is located on top of the trans. behind the firewall.

Has anyone replaced or worked on this switch without removing the trans from the chassis. Please let me know your suggestions.

Thank you.

A simple test would be to unplug the wires going to the neutral switch and jumper the connector. If it starts, the switch is bad. With the jumper it will start in any gear so be careful.

Thank you. This is what I meant by a Bypass for the switch.
But where is the connector for the Neutral Switch?
Like I said, the FSM shows that the switch and I'm assuming the connector for it, are on top of the trans. Do I have to remove the shift leaver to get to it? Or can it be accessed from under the car?

Thank you.

Never worked on an auto tranny. The switch may be on the tranny or the shifter. Get under the car and check. There should be an overdrive switch, reverse and neutral. The tranny rebuild section may show where they are.
