1983 having issues. Carb, fuel?
Yesterday, while driving, my motor loses power instantly, had to keep it pedaled to keep it alive and make it home. When I took my foot off the gas, it idled down really slow from 3000rpm, gets down to 1500 and chokes out, dumps smoke until it died. Major gas smell came with this, inside the carb and out the exhaust. Carb cleaner would clear the smoke while sprayed but no permanent fix. Checking spark plugs next. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar issue with their 12a. Also one hose to the air filter starts whistling, blowing air making a ridiculous vacuum noise. Can't help but think this is all part of the same problem. Really have no ideas where to start. Thanks for the time and any help.

Please correct me if I'm off base.
First pic is the shutter valve. To the left of the arrow is where the hose goes to the air cleaner. The vacuum line is at the lower left.
Second pic is the Vacuum Hose Routing Diagram. (The valve is labeled Coasting valve.)
In the diagram, the green vacuum line goes from the rats nest to the valve.
To test the valve, apply vacuum. If the valve is bad it will not hold vacuum as the internal diaphragm is shot.
