1981 alternator

Hello,
Been awhile since I posted.
Original owner of 1981 RX-7 GS model with about 81,500. KM. Collector plates.
Recently my alternator died
Would really appreciate suggestions for replacement alternator. Original was made by Mitsubishi, Japan of course..
Thank you!!

The original one is no longer available but you can have it rebuilt. I have an electric motor rebuild place near where I live. It also could be as simple as replacing the brushes which is easy to do and very cheap.

The factory service manual has a breakdown of all the parts. You can get it here for free. Foxed.ca

I put in an FC style alternator that provides 70 amps

It's a pretty direct bolt on, you just need two spacers, one between one of the engine mount points and the new alt mounting ear, and one to take up some extra length on the bolt on the pivoting mount. See the chromed pieces in the photos below. I bought the exact size required from the Hillman boxes at the local Ace Hardware. It is the same electrical connection compared to the stock 55 amp version.
